Following the electoral college process approved by Te Rūnanganui o Te Pīhopatanga o Aotearoa, we now invite formal nomination of candidates to be considered for the role of Te Pīhopa o Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Waipounamu.
This is both a moment of solemn responsibility, and one of deep thanksgiving and joy. Kia whakamoemititia, kia whakakorōritia te Atua, nāna i mea kia tau tonu mai tōna aroha me āna manaakitanga me āna ātawhainga maha ki a tātou.

Nominations must be made using the forms on this webpage and meet all the required criteria. Please make sure you read and understand all the requirements and follow instructions accordingly.
The Nomination process requires candidates to undergo and pass vigorous vetting and screening in order to progress to the Electoral College on 17 – 18 April 2026.
Nominations that do not follow the criteria, are submitted late or incomplete, and/or fail the vetting and screening process, will not be accepted.
Applications for Nominations are open from 9am Monday 23 February 2026 until 5pm Wednesday 4 March 2026.
Formal Requirements for Nomination
- Nominations must be made collectively
Nominations must be made collectively via recognised local and regional groupings within Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Waipounamu. These are:
Whakatū
Te Arapai (Blenheim)
Motueka
Ōtautahi
Te Toko Toru Tapu (Arowhenua)
Ōtepoti
Murihiku
Nominating groups must show that they have met, discerned, and reached a shared agreement to make the nomination. We encourage these groups to hold their hui in the wairua of aroha, rongo, and hari, and in a manner that upholds the oranga ake of the hāhi and everyone involved.
- Nominations must include all requested information
Nominations must include all the requested documentation and information outlined below. Incomplete nominations will not be accepted.
- Nominations must complete the vetting and screening process
Nominations must complete the required vetting and screening process as outlined below. Fees and costs associated are the responsibility of the Nominee and/or the Nominating group.
Nominees must evidence that they have paid for and started Vetting and Screening before the formal Nomination window closes.
- Nominations must meet the deadline
Formal Nominations will be accepted from 9am Monday 23 February 2026 and close at 5pm Wednesday 4 March 2026. No further nominations will be accepted after this deadline.
Vetting and Screening may continue as required through to 5pm Thursday 26 March 2026.
Nominations that have met and completed all requirements, including Vetting and Screening, will be announced formally on Friday 27 March 2026.
