Tēnā tātou i runga i te ingoa o tō tātou Ariki a Ihu Karaiti,
With joy and thanksgiving, it is our pleasure to formally announce the vacancy in the office of Bishop of Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Manawa o Te Wheke, following the retirement of the Right Reverend Ngārahu Kātene in 2025.
We honour Bishop Ngārahu, his beloved wife Kāmana, and their whānau for their ministry and devoted service to our hāhi, to iwi, and to the people of Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Manawa o Te Wheke. Across 19 years of episcopal ministry, Bishop Ngārahu shepherded Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Manawa o Te Wheke with incredible grace, servanthood, and a deep love for his people.
We now commit ourselves to a time of collective prayer, as the clergy and laity of Te Manawa o Te Wheke seek to discern together with Te Wairua Tapu, who has been called to be the next Pīhopa and servant of the people. The approved electoral process adopted by Te Rūnanganui o Te Pīhopatanga o Aotearoa, and recently used for the election of the Bishop of Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Waipounamu, will once again guide and support our discernment.
Details of the process, including the requirements for nominating candidates for consideration by the Electoral College on the 2nd and 3rd October 2026, will be shared by the Te Pīhopatanga o Aotearoa office over the coming months.
As this sacred work begins, let us join together in prayer, asking God to guide all who share in this discernment, and all who may be listening for God’s call.
He īnoi mō te mahi tapu a te Rūnanga Tohu o Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Manawa o te Wheke
